The Art of Transformation
There are many foundation science activities with great integral merit in the science classroom. However, many of these activities are designed to ask closed ended questions, without getting the students and their minds as engaged as possible. Below are a few activities transformed to include inquiry based, student driven, and problem solving educational design techniques. The transformations given are "challenge statements" around which inquiry based, hand-on lessons can be designed.

Transformations
Design an experiment to figure out whether the concentration of substance matters for a chemical reaction. You've just had your tonsils removed and can only eat ice cream, but no cones aloud! Because it's pretty tender you eat your ice cream slowly, but still like it to stay frozen to the very last bite. Design an experiment to figure out what substances would make the best ice cream bowl to keep your ice cream as cold as possible. Design an enclosed space for your plant to live, where it can get everything it needs in order to be "healthy" and "successful" (Class creates guidelines for assessment of healthy and successful) |
